Privacy and safety

Lernbuddy is built for children aged 10 to 14. So the rule is: everything stays on the device. There is no account, no cloud, no advertising and no statistics.

What stays on the device

Flashcards, quiz results and learning progress are stored in a database on the computer. Chat conversations are not stored at all – they disappear as soon as Lernbuddy is closed or "New chat" is chosen.

None of it is sent to a server, including ours.

No account, no personal data

Lernbuddy has no sign-in and doesn't know your child's name, school, age or where they live. The AI is explicitly instructed never to ask for personal information.

No internet connection in use

The AI runs right on the computer. The only internet connection is the one-time download of the AI model (see The AI model). After that the computer can be fully offline.

No statistics, no advertising

Lernbuddy contains no analytics tools, no crash reports sent anywhere, no advertising and no in-app purchases.

Hints instead of answers

In the chat, Lernbuddy follows the Socratic method: it gives hints and asks questions back rather than simply solving homework. The aim is for your child to reach the answer themselves. The language is pitched at 10- to 14-year-olds.

Limits of the AI

Even a good language model makes mistakes. Lernbuddy can get facts wrong, phrase an explanation clumsily or write something incorrect when making cards. We therefore recommend:

  • looking through newly made cards together before they are saved,
  • telling your child to ask if an answer seems odd – you, or a teacher.

Because quiz answers are mostly checked without AI, grading there is transparent and consistent (see How answers are checked).
