Quiz and review

In the quiz you practise with your cards. You type the answer yourself – there are no choices to click. That way you remember things better.

Starting a quiz

  1. Open the Quiz tab.
  2. Tap a topic.
  3. Read the question, type your answer and tap Check.
  4. Next card takes you on.

Each topic shows a bar and two numbers: how many cards are already solid and how many you should still practise. A card is solid once you've got it right three times in a row.

Today's review

Sometimes a Today's review card shows up at the top. It holds up to ten cards from all your topics that are due again today. Tap it, and you practise exactly what you'd otherwise forget.

When does a card come back?

Lernbuddy remembers how well you know each card:

  • If you know a card, it waits longer and longer before showing it again – first a day, then a few days, then weeks.
  • If you don't know it, it comes back soon.

That way you mostly practise what you don't know well yet. This is called "spaced repetition".

Correct, almost or not quite

After checking, you get one of three results:

  • Correct! (green) – that's it. Capital or small letters don't matter.
  • Almost. (yellow) – you were really close:
    • A small typo, like "recieve" instead of "receive". Lernbuddy shows you the right spelling and marks the letters to watch out for.
    • A form is missing. If the card wants "went, gone" and you only write "went", one is still missing.
  • Not quite. (red) – the answer isn't right. Lernbuddy shows you the right answer and often a hint too.

By the way, a typo isn't the same as a wrong word: "fond" instead of "found" isn't a typo, it's a completely different English word. That counts as not quite.

Numbers have no wiggle room – "1945" and "1954" are two different years.

At the end

After the last card you see how many you got right. If you practise several days in a row, Lernbuddy counts along, for example "🔥 3 days in a row". Your buddy also writes you a few sentences about what's going well and what you could still practise.

Same topic again lets you keep going, Pick another topic takes you back to the overview.

Break time!

When you've been practising for a quarter of an hour, Lernbuddy suggests a short break. You can take it – or just keep going.
