Storage

The storage area monitors file sizes, free space and log usage – the most common causes of sudden outages ("database full", "log filling up").

What is shown

• File and database sizes and growth over time.
• Free disk space from sys.dm_os_volume_stats (persisted for history).
• Free space in the transaction log per database, enriched via DBCC SQLPERF(LOGSPACE).
• VLF count (Virtual Log Files) – a very high count points to poor log growth and can slow down recovery and backups.

Why it matters

A filling log or a disk running out of space stops writes entirely. Early visibility plus alerts on free space give you lead time before it turns critical.
