Installation

NovaSql comes in three forms. All three contain the same program and share your data.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or newer, 64-bit
  • access to a SQL Server or an Azure SQL database

You do not need to install .NET; everything required is included.

Option 1: Microsoft Store

The most convenient option: installation and updates go through the Store, and Windows does not warn about an unknown publisher.

Option 2: Installer

The setup file NovaSql-Setup-<version>.exe installs NovaSql for your own user by default, so no administrator rights are needed. The wizard lets you choose whether .sql files should open in NovaSql. Afterwards NovaSql appears in the Start menu and under Apps & Features.

Windows warning on first launch

The website version is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen reports "Windows protected your PC". Click More info and then Run anyway.

Option 3: Portable ZIP

Extract NovaSql-<version>-win-x64.zip and run NovaSql.exe, no installation needed. This option adds no Start menu entry and does not associate .sql files.

Tip to avoid the SmartScreen warning: unblock the ZIP file before extracting it. Right-click the ZIP file → Properties → tick Unblock at the bottom → OK.

Demo version

The demo version shows a DEMO badge in the header. Source Control and Tests are locked there; everything else works. Buy full version leads to the Store listing.

Uninstalling

  • Store and installer: remove it via Settings → Apps.
  • Portable version: delete the folder.

Your data (connections, settings, history) stays in both cases. To remove it as well, also delete %AppData%\NovaSql and %LocalAppData%\NovaSql. What lives there is described in Privacy and your data.
